This pup is created by sculptor Steve Massam and  cast in solid, British lead free pewter. Pewter is a much underrated metal, it has a high resistance to tarnishing. The Falkland Islands have a number of small breeding populations of elephant seals. Both male and females come ashore in October to have their pups and mate. Pups are nurses for about three weeks after which the females return to the sea.
